| This
is climbing on
Tenerife: |
|
| The largest unknown climbing
paradise of Europe, welcome to a
world of unpolished rock, uncrowded
crags, pristine basalt and of course
365 days a year in pleasant weather.
While sea level offers soaring sun
worshipping temperatures, a gain in
altitude, and a move inland drops
the temperature giving eternal
spring …. never too hot... never
too cold.
|
|
The most important climbing
area’s are in the South around
Granadilla and Arico, more
than 15 Crags all
within 20 minutes drive.
|
|
| For the sports climber:
over 750 routes from 4 to 8C, with a
good representation of French 5 to
6C, from single to multi pitches up
to 300ft.
With the resurgence of
climbing over the last couple of
years many of the routes have been
rebolted, and with new routes going
up weekly there’s always something
fresh for the explorer.
|
| Bouldering : warm,
fresh, low or high ball problems are
in abundance. The mythical Barrancos
offers lines for all abilities, with
a lifetimes worth of problem. Many
climbers come to the island
specifically to boulder and with
mats for hire it couldn’t be
easier.
|
| Trad climbing : your
boldest dreams become real,
adventure climbing is alive and well
in Tenerife, from the Sea cliffs of
Los Gigantes of alpine intensity to
classic walls of Taganana, there is
more than enough to guarantee your
favourite pro gets plenty of placing.
|
|
|
What truly makes Tenerife
special is the supportive, good-natured
and friendly |
| Respect for nature that you
will find every step of the way.
Climbing with like minded people and
don’t forget to pop into the local
climbing shop to get all the local
knowledge you may need. |

Even if you only visit the
island for a short time, you can still try
out a few different climbing areas every day,
without having to drive around for hours.
Every spot offers different opportunities
and rocks. As most of the routes are located
in barrancos (dry riverbeds)you will always find a shadowed side
to climb, so even on the hottest days you
can climb some rock in Tenerife!
|
|
|
|
The Barranco of Arico and El Capricho are excellent
areas to take your children, you don’t
have to walk far and access to rock is easy.
Here they can run around free and have fun. |
|
|
|
If you’re more happy at
the beach then we can suggest Poris de Abona
(at 10 min walk from the beach). First solve
a few problems and then a refreshing swim in
the ocean. Lately we hear more about psycho-bloc,
what else do you need?
